Not wanting to paint from other people's photographs, I began to photograph nude reference material myself. "Recollections" tests the waters of working with friends as models. Curious about incorporating ropes as a visual element, I dipped my toe into Shibari tying. In my paintings shibari is used as a tool for non-objectified self-exploration.
