Artist Statement
Like a stream that cuts through stone, the feminine wields a soft but tremendous power. I paint women, as they are the physical incarnation of that soft power. Though not widely embraced, the feminine resides in everyone. The wellsprings of life, the female form serves as an illustrated gateway to universally felt emotional narratives. Using the body as a vehicle for lived experience, my paintings encapsulate both the earthly temporal and the subtle body. I am celebrating embodiment in its full sensory experience. Encapsulating moments inhabited by women in their natural condition, their bodies are simply the instrument in which they experience the world. Human existence is ripe with duality. I ask viewers to feel for themselves the playfulness, complexity and contradiction in the feminine. I non-exclusively invite emotion, touch, temperature, sensation, sex, friendship, self-exploration and contemplation into my paintings- freeze frames of a living, breathing piece of time.
